The government plans to allow landowners living in small municipalities (below 2,000 population) greater latitude in building houses, in an attempt to bypass restrictions imposed by a Council of State ruling.
The Ministry of Environment’s plan would provide greater building latitude to communities with populations from 700 to 2,000.
Critics say that many of the smaller villages are largely abandoned and the new regulations will allow property owners to build holiday homes for themselves or short-term rentals.
